Family mediation offers couples the opportunity to work out arrangements for themselves and their children following or during separation with the help of impartial mediators. The mediation process enables couples to consider the options available to them and helps them to reach joint decisions about what they want to happen. These can be made into a binding agreement following appropriate legal safeguards for each individual. Family mediation can help to reduce conflict and misunderstanding, it can be cost-effective and assist in better future communication, which is especially important for parental co-operation where there are children.
